Closest Airports to Monemvasia

The closest International airport to Monemavasia is Kalamata. There are direct British Airways, EasyJet and Ryanair flights from London airports during the season (March - October). Car hire is available at Kalamata airport with a 2 hour 20 minute journey on well maintained open roads. Alternatively, a taxi can be arranged to drive you to the villa and will cost in the region of 200 euros. Car hire is also available in Monemvasia.

There are also regular flights that run from the main UK International airports to Athens throughout the year. The distance between Athens and Monemvasia is 322 km and takes approximately 3.45 minutes by car. Again either hire a car from the airport or take a taxi to be chauffeur driven at a cost in the region of 400 euros.

Hosts

Georgia and Peter are managing the property and they will welcome you on arrival.  Georgia is local to the area and daughter of Costa and Sula who own and run the Taverna opposite.  Georgia and Peter have  their own business as accountants in the nearby town, Monemvasia.  Georgia speaks English.

Functuality Booklet

A ‘functuality booklet’ that outlines all information pertaining to the running of the house can be found on the bookshelf by the TV in the livingroom. The booklet will provide information on the wifi, air conditioning system, house appliances and the TV and the available channels.

Internet

Wifi is available and the password can be found in the ‘Functuality Booklet’.

Each room is fitted with its own separate air conditioning system to accommodate each person’s individual needs. Although easy to navigate, information on the system can also be found in the ‘Functuality Booklet.’

Local Restaurants/Tavernas

  • Surrounding the villa is a relaxed affair with three local tavernas that offer authentic, delicious Greek food and good quality local wines by the carafe; all at affordable rates.

  • Costa’s Taverna

  • Take the path in front of the villa, through the olive groves to find Costa’s taverna. Another family run taverna, with a beautiful elegant ambience with delicious homemade food to match; a personal favourite being their homemade lamb souvlaki. The owners are kind and accommodating and always on hand to give advice on the local area. Open during the season and religious festivals.

  • Cooly’s Taverna

  • Walk to the end of the drive and turn left onto the main drag towards Monemvasia and after a two minute walk you will find ‘Cooly’s’ on the right hand side. It’s a family run taverna with a welcoming and laidback vibe. Here you will find all the staple homemade greek classics, including stuffed tomatoes and flowers and greek salads, Located just above the beach, Cooly’s is ideal for a long leisurely lunch followed by a late afternoon swim before the sun sets. This taverna is open during the season and religious festivals. However, there is a takeaway service available all year round.

  • The Ouzorea’

  • A five minute walk from the villa you will find the ‘Ouzorea’ - walk down to the mini port by the sea. A perfect spot for a romantic candle lit dinner with the taverna offering spectacular views of the sea’s enclave. As always the food is locally sourced and delicious; especially the fried feta cheese if you’re really looking to indulge. This taverna is only open during the season.

  • Paraskavi Taverna

  • A ten minute drive down the road you will find the Taverna in Paraskevi. A favourite for those that enjoy reimagined provencal classics and an eclectic menu in a beautiful outdoor setting. This tavern is open only during the season and religious festivals but out of season is open at Weekends.

    The New Town

  • From traditional Greek bakeries to local greengrocers, supermarkets, doctors and dentists, the new town has everything a tourist could ever need. Located by the sea you will also find an array of lovely restaurants overlooking the fishing port where you can enjoy the days fresh catch.

    The Castro - The Old Town

  • The Pièce de résistance of Monemvasia is the old town hidden on the rock which offers a wide variety of restaurants and bars that serves anything and everything from mediterranean sharing dishes, Italian cuisine to the trusty authentic local dishes. There are also some vibrant bars that offer a delicious range of cocktails from the classics to the more exotic and unusual. A perfect spot for a 6pm ouzo (or G&T) to wind down and relax as the sun’s majesty sets over the Aegean Sea.
